People are becoming more aware of what material of the product are make, expecially for the kids toy , this has let manufactures to adopt cleaner, more ethical and socially-conscious production practices, so if you've bought some cute toys like play tent for your little ones with an Oeko-Tex label, you will want to learn more about what is means and how important it is.

Oeko-Tex is a registered trade mark, representing the product labels and company certifications issued and other services provided by the International Association for Research and Testing in the Field of Textile and Leather Ecology (which also calls itself Oeko-Tex for short).

The Oeko-Tex Association issues the product-related labels Standard 100 by Oeko-Tex (formerly Oeko-Tex Standard 100), Made in Green by Oeko-Tex (formerly Oeko-Tex Standard 100plus) and Leather Standard by Oeko-Tex, the label Eco Passport by Oeko-Tex for chemicals to be used in textile production, and the STeP by Oeko-Tex label (formerly Oeko-Tex Standard 1000) and the Detox to Zero status report for production facilities.

Oeko-Tex labels and certificates confirm the human-ecological safety of textile products and leather articles from all stages of production (raw materials and fibres,yarns,fabric, ready-to-use end products) along the textile value chain, Some also attest to socially and environmentally sound conditions in production facilities.

When it comes to product safety and social responsibility, Oeko-Tex is one of the best-known labels worldwide. That's why it's important to know what Oeko-Tex stands for, what it certifies and what differentiates it from other standards on the market.

In short, OEKO-TEX is comprised of a set of third-party certifications which verify that a product is tested for chemicals that are potentially harmful to humans and our larger ecosystems. OEKO-TEX® doesn’t manufacture any products itself; rather, it verifies other companies’ products.

Oeko-Tex developed four product classes, where every article is categorized according to its intended use.

  • Class 1 is for baby and toddler products. This is the most highly-regulated and strictly-tested article group. Because baby skin is very sensitive, it requires special care and protection. This product class carries additional requirements such as "color bleeding" and saliva resistance.

  • Class 2 includes products that come in direct contact with the skin. These can be clothes such as t-shirts, socks, underwear and home textiles ..

  • Class 3 Oeko-Tex Standard 100 products have very little to no skin contact. Think outerwear (jackets, coats), belts and other clothing and accessories.

  • Class 4 includes textiles and products used for decoration, such as furniture, upholstery materials, curtains and tablecloths.
